Hello! I'm a sophomore majoring in computer engineering and computer science. I recently heard about the competition from a friend and would love to participate for this year's competition. I'm definitely an advocate of combining different field of study to educate the world, in this case sharing scientific inquiries and ideas through a form of an art. I'm open for any topics to explore. Possibly ideas I have for the film topic was programming, artificial intelligence and the idea of can machines think (can get into psychology and neuroscience), and lastly plasma physics (the study of matter in the fourth state, plasma, where the object gets so hot that the atoms break apart into pool of positive and negative ions. About 99% of universe is in a plasma state. Common examples include fluorescent light bulb to the beautiful auroras). But again I'm more than happy to explore other topics. Please contact me if I have not contacted you yet and if you are looking for a science member for your team and/or will like to create one with me. Thanks!

[As of 9/24/12] Hello, everyone! My name is Chantelle, an English major, and I'm looking forward to getting involved in the Science Film Competition. I'm a fiction writer with some experience in writing scripts and pooling a whole team's ideas into one storyline. If you've already got a script-writer, I've got a good eye for proofreading and helping dialogue sound more natural. I have four years of non-professional voice acting experience for animations, and I can draw well in Photoshop. I have a small amount of Flash animation experience, but I am still only learning. I can edit footage in Sony Vegas (some experience in Final Cut Pro, but I'm not as adept there), and I'm a decent shot with a video camera. My favorite scientific topics are those involving outer space and astronomy, but I'm interested in helping with any sort of project! I'm a friendly team-player and excited to meet you!

I am an Oceanographer (the five areas, hard science) with a Master’s degree in Coastal Zone management and administration (policy and politics Social Science), also have a diploma as Analyst III in GIS (visual and spatial analysis) and currently developing my dissertation research as a Doctor in Policy Planning and Development dealing with Coastal Issues, from beach nourishment, storm water management, and Sea Level Rise. I would be glad to team up with some students interested in issues of Sea Level Rise and Climate Change, although I am open to hear more ideas. Most of my carrier is dedicated to filling the gap between the principles of good science and the politics of best practices, policy making and implementation. Being able to translate scientifically sound information to general voters audiences has always been one of my areas of concern and participating in this science film festival would be a great opportunity Best, Oc. Hi All, my name is Jonathan Maurer and I am an MFA student in Film & TV Production in the School of Cinematic Arts. I have a diverse taste and interest in film, with experience in all the avenues of short film-making (as writer/director/producer/editor/cinematographer). I would love the opportunity to bring a fascinating and complex idea to life through a film that assumes its audience's intelligence and treats it with respect. I would like to be approached by a team looking for someone in the film department, or else approach semi-formed teams, based on their interest(s), that still need a filmmaker. I own a lot of my own equipment and have had great collaborations with colleagues in the film department and music department who may also be able to assist. During my time at USC SCA I have directed films over distinct genres--horror, avant-garde/surreal, comedy--and am sure I could find the right tone to tell a story we are all interested in and passionate about.

I am a doctoral student in Physcis specializing in the areas of Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Science. I am very interested in this competition because I believe it is a great idea to use film as a tool to educate the general public in many scientific topics. While my expertise relates mostly to the phenomena that happens in the quantum world, I am also familiar with more standard topics in physics and mathematics such as mechanics, electromagnetics, calculus and dynamical systems. Contact me in order to discuss any ideas you may have and I'm sure that together we can make a great project become a reality.

I am the Team Captain of the USC Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Team (USC AUV), which designs and builds an autonomous underwater robot for an international competition. Although we have no students on the team who are experienced in making films, we'd be interested in partnering with students who do for this competition. We could offer a great deal of expertise in what could be a very interesting video topic for this competition. There is a lot of fascination with autonomous robots and we can provide the technical knowledge and various opportunities to film our robot and our process for designing and working. We are used to talking to new freshman and non-engineers about our project, so we are very good at explaining very technical problems in simplified and interesting ways. If there is a film team that is looking for a subject or to partner with us, (another member or two and I could act as the other members of the team) we would be very excited at the opportunity. I also am a theatre minor, so I am very interested in the blending of art and science.

I'm a Ph.D. student in Genetics, Molecular, and Cellular Biology at HSC. My focus is developmental and stem cell biology. I'm also involved in writing press releases for researchers so the lay public can see what new advances are made. I'd love to help work the hard science into an entertaining, understandable format. I believe scientists need to do a better job of making sure that the general populous can appreciate and utilize new discoveries, and this competition is a great step toward that goal.

Γειά σου, hello, 你好, ¡Hola. I wish I could speak four different languages but unfortunately time, is the most valuable quantity in our world. However, it is always fun to learn even the simplest words, like hello, in other languages. In addition to multilinguality, I bet, that after all this technological development, everybody would love to learn about the simple and fun parts of science. But again, time is money and as a Greek, I can guarantee you that this equality really holds. I guess, I should rephrase my wish to: "I wish I could manipulate time"! I am a (mathematical) physics PhD student and I pursue a career in the field of Theoretical High Energy Physics. During my previous studies (at Imperial College London) I did a few presentations on cosmological/ relativistic topics, like black holes, wormholes and time travel. One thing that I learnt out of these presentations, is that time travel has not been proven impossible! Einstein's theory of general relativity admits solutions where one can jump into a wormhole and travel back to the past. The most attractive side of this topic though (besides that it sounds pretty cool) is that you can present it without introducing any equations at all. Moreover, it allows you to add humorous cut outs (which I will not publish) and in fact, I would prefer the film to be presented with some sense of comedy. In any case, I am open to new ideas and I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
